Allowable Things To Bring Inside The Treatment Facility
There are certain items that are not allowed in a rehab facility and so when checking in, you need to be sure which ones are allowed.
Treatment centres are enforcing stringent rules when it comes to contrabands and prohibited objects inside the facility. A recommended packing list is provided by most centres, which also provide you with a list of items that are prohibited.
Following your arrival at the treatment centre, you are required to check in and initiate the admission process. All the items that are not allowed will be eliminated at this step. Many inpatient facilities record the stuff you bring in their database in order to ensure none of your stuff is left behind when you check out.
Only the things that you really require are allowed in the centres. Different centres have different policies in place for extra stuff.
The rehab will always notify you of all the items that are not allowed in their facility. Alternatively, you can also look for the frequently asked questions [FAQs] section if the page mentioned above does not exist. Some centres are known to offer packing checklists, which is printable that you can refer to while packing. If you are still unable to find the information required you are advised to contact the admissions office of the rehab. They should be able to help you with that concern. You can also receive clarification on other policies or guidance about the admission process.

In case you insist on bringing your own reading material, they are to be recovery related, self-help and spiritual materials.
TIP: It is recommended that you carry just paperback books because they are easy to carry around than hardcovers.
The Attire You Should Have With You
Some centres have prescribed dress codes or limitations that you have to consider. In case where you are not sure, consider to bring articles that you can use in layering in case of cold weather.
This however does not mean that you should carry your whole closet.
You should carry enough clothing for a week because you will have access to a laundry machine within the centres. Try not to bring clothes which require special washing like dry cleaning for example.
You should bring weather-appropriate clothes for at least 7 days.
Shoes: An everyday comfortable shoes, a training or sports shoes for fitness activities, and flip flops for showering

Hygiene And Beauty Products That Are Acceptable
A number of centres require alcohol-free toiletries and personal products. However, these requirements varies from one centre to another. You will not be allowed to carry aerosols.
Personal hygiene and beauty products that last for a month have to be carried along and they are:
Toothpaste and toothbrush
Shampoo and conditioner
Hair styling spray
Comb / brush
Hygiene products for women
Which Items Are Prohibited
There are some items that are never allowed inside the centres. This is because they might compromise the recovery process of the patient or even put their lives at risk. These are the screened contrabands:
Liquor and any form of drug
Narcotics and prohibited prescriptions
Sharp objects and weapons
Food and drink
Everyday stuff containing alcohol
Medications that are not prescribed
Nail polish, polish remover or synthetic nail associated products
One may not imagine that some of these items could be banned. The idea behind banning them is to minimize distractions and help you stay focused on recovery. At times, your centre will provide these items
You will also find that food from outside and drinks are banned because the centres maintain a moderate sugar and caffeine environment. You will be provided with three meals a day, snacks and beverages. Inform your clinic before admission if you have special needs.
Items Allowed In Some Rehabs But Not In Others
Each has their own rules and policies so do not expect that it is standard to all. A lot of things are off limits in nearly all centres, but these items might be allowed in some:
Cell phone and Laptop
In case you have this permission in your rehab, chances are your access to it is limited.
You must ensure that you do not forget your power cords.
Some facilities will allow you to bring in cigarettes if you are a smoker.
These centres usually have some restrictions regarding the number of cartons you can bring in.
Vitamins and OTC Medications
All the medicine should either be prescribed or new.
Gums too should be unopened and sealed during admission.
You might be permitted to bring along entertainment devices that can work without speakers and internet.
Some clinics permit cameras without internet connection for those who love pictures.
Throwaway or Electric Razors
This depends on the rehab facility since it is considered dangerous.
Disposable razors, however, are more often than not allowed.
It depends with the requirement in the facility.
Objects That Make You Feel At Home
The rehabs allow you to come with things that will make you feel as comfortable as possible just like you are at home.
Just double check with your rehab centre if these are indeed allowed before stuffing them into your luggage.
Will I Retrieve Forbidden Items That I Accidently Take To The Clinic
If you arrive at the centres with some prohibited items without realisation you do not have to remain concerned. The personnel will just endorse it to your accompanying friend or loved one. Your objects are kept for 24 hours in other centres until someone collects them. In some cases, the centres may decide to store the items for you until your departure.
If you are traveling from a distant location and are arriving by air it is likely that you will not have a loved one with you during the admission to take the prohibited items back. You are therefore recommended to call your rehab centres before you leave home to double check their policies. In case you pack something, which is prohibited by mistake you will want to ensure that those items will be returned during some stage. If the centres do not store the items, you can ask them to ship them back for you.
Packing For Rehab You are just required to follow the policies of the centres and ask plenty of questions if you are unsure about any items. Ask for a checklist whenever available so you can use as a guide. Follow the general rule and try to pack light to keep it down to the necessities.
